The SimBegin training program combines self-guided e-learning with immersive online workshops and practical in-person scenarios to equip healthcare providers and educators to run simulation training successfully. It consists of three levels of training with varied learning objectives.
Level 1
Suited for healthcare professionals who are new to simulation based education.
Focus areas:
- Introduction to healthcare simulation
- CORE debriefing
- Implementation of simulation
At the end of level 1, participants can demonstrate and plan and run pre-made scenarios and follow the CORE debriefing and briefing structure.
Level 2
Suited for healthcare professionals who have completed Level 1 and qualify to be a mentor.
Focus areas:
- Simulation fidelity and modalities
- Simulation for Quality Improvement
- Mentoring
At the end of level 2, participants can mentor new beginners and Level 1 participants with simulation facilitation.
Level 3
Suited for healthcare professionals who have completed Level 1 and Level 2, and qualify to be faculty.
Focus areas:
- Guidance in SimBegin
- Learning to run SimBegin courses
- Create simulation scenarios
At the end of level 3, participants can run Level 1 and Level 2 training for new participants. They can also design new simulation scenarios.

SimBegin Level 1
The SimBegin Level 1 course material is available in 9 languages and comprises of three modules.
Level 1 provides a solid foundation for healthcare professionals who are new to simulation and empowers them to deliver high-quality education using simulation methodologies.
By the end of this course, participants will have developed the skills to effectively plan and execute pre-made scenarios.

Module 1
Introduction to Healthcare Simulation
This self-directed module serves as an introduction to the fundamentals of healthcare simulation and patient safety.
Module topics
- Healthcare simulation
- Patient safety
- Circle of Learning
Module 2
CORE Debriefing
This module combines self-directed e-learning with immersive online workshops led by SimBegin Faculty.
Module topics
- CORE debriefing method
- Facilitating discussions
Module 3
Implementation of Simulation
Self-directed e-learning with practical simulation scenarios. Learn how to plan, brief, and debrief simulation scenarios.
Module topics
- Best practice sample videos
- Scenario planning
- Briefing & debriefing
Included
LIFT Scenarios
When purchasing SimBegin Level 1, users will gain access for 1 year to LIFT Scenarios: a digital tool that supports facilitators to lead high quality on-going simulation training.
SimBegin Level 2
The SimBegin Level 2 course comprises of four workshops.
Level 2 provides foundation to be a SimBegin mentor. As a mentor one will support SimBegin facilitator and develop a culture of implementation of simulation activities following low dose high frequency approach and also take first steps into using simulation for quality improvement programs.

Simulation Fidelity
Participants learn how to enhance realism in simulation-based education by understanding and applying appropriate levels of fidelity – technical environment and psychological.
Simulation Modalities
This module explores a variety of simulation approaches – ranging from task trainers to standardized patient – to align training methods with learning objectives and available resources.
Simulation for Quality Improvement
Educators are introduced to using simulation not only for training but also a tool to identify system gaps and drive clinical quality improvement initiatives.
Mentoring
Participants develop mentoring skills to support new facilitators, providing constructive feedback and helping to build a culture of continuous learning and reflective practice.
SimBegin Level 3
This is an advanced course that prepares experienced simulation facilitators to become certified faculty, capable of leading SimBegin trainings, mentoring new educators, and designing impactful simulation scenarios tailored to local health care needs.

What is the difference between SimBegin Course and SimBegin Mentoring Program?
SimBegin course
SimBegin course is a stand-alone and consists of three module courses. Module 1 is an eCourse, i.e., a pure e-learning preparation module. Module 2 is a face-to-face module either delivered remotely as a virtual instructor-lead training (VILT) or on site. Module 3 is an on-side one day module for simulation and facilitation training.
Participants who have completed the SimBegin course are SimBegin Facilitators.
Participants can facilitate pre-made scenarios. There is no obligation to continue to the next level after this course, even though that is highly recommended to be able to develop and maintain the quality of simulation and facilitation at an organization.
If the participants want to qualify for the next level, after completing the SimBegin course, the participants need hands-on training at their local simulation facility. To be able to enter the next level, SimBegin mentoring program we recommend facilitating a minimum of 10 scenarios alone following the CORE structure as used in Module 3.
SimBegin Mentoring program
Becoming a SimBegin Mentor
This level consists of four workshops. Here the SimBegin™ Facilitators will be introduced to the topics of i) simulation fidelity, ii) simulation modality with focus on skill training and the instructor role, iii) the potential of simulation for healthcare quality improvement and iv) mentoring of other SimBegin Facilitators,
All workshops ought to be delivered remotely due to our sustainability and scalability approaches. Note, the attendees need to do practical tasks (homework) after each workshop and create a video recording or a written summary of their tasks (details later).
As a SimBegin Mentor one will support and coach SimBegin Facilitators in their daily facilitator role, as well as support the organization to develop and implement a culture of high-quality simulation activities and also to take the first steps into using simulation for quality improvement programs.
After completing this level and becoming a SimBegin Mentor there are no obligation to continue to the next level. An organization will benefit from having employees at Level 1 and Level 2 to develop a culture for high quality simulation. However, if there is a need to be trained on creating scenarios and to also train own SimBegin Facilitators, one should aim for the Level 3. For those, after completing Level 2, the participants need hands-on training at their local simulation facility before entering Level 3.
